Ingredients

– 1⅓ pounds ground beef 85% recommended – 3 ounces mozzarella cheese cut into 4 thick slices, or can use shredded – 8 slices Texas toast Pizza sauce - ingredients on next page

Pizza Sauce

8 ounces tomato sauce ⅓ cup tomato paste  2 teaspoons Italian seasoning ½ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon garlic powder ¼ teaspoon onion powder ¼ teaspoon sugar ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Making Sauce

In a bowl mix together all of the ingredients for the pizza sauce and set aside. It does not get cooked before using.

Divide and Shape

Divide the beef into 1/3 pound piles.  Then divide each pile in 2's - make the bottom piece bigger then the top piece. Shape the bottom into a shallow bowl shaped patty.

Stuff Burgers

Add 2-3 Tablespoons of pizza sauce into the little bowl shape.  Top with a slice of cheese. Add the top piece of beef and use your hands to seal them as best as you can.

Grilling

Preheat grill to 450 degrees. Place burgers over direct heat and close the grill. Cook for about 7-8 minutes. Flip carefully with wide spatula.  Cook 5-8 minutes until beef is 160 degrees.

Texas Toast

Place toast on the grill.  Cook 1-2 minutes (if frozen it may take longer.) Flip and cook another 1-2 minutes until desired amount of crisp on the toast.

Put Together

Spread remaining pizza sauce over the  toast.   Place burger on top of the sauce.  Add the top toast sauce side down on top of the pizza burger.

Enjoy!

Remove the stuffed  pizza burgers on Texas toast from the grill and allow to rest about 5-10 minutes before serving.
